Dearly Loved

After much research and help from many friends and professionals Ashlara Farm is the proud owner of the fabulous thoroughbred mare Dearly Loved. A special thanks to Elisa of Ridleigh Sport Horses for all that she is.

View her pedigree on pedigreequery. Dearly Loved is by Raise a Native and out of a Secretariat mare, just reading her pedigree makes me smile. This mare is by the same sire as Mr. Prospector!
This amazingly bred mare has had a life that children's stories are based on. She was born on Hill 'n' Dale Farm's thoroughbred breeding farm in Ontario, Canada. Hill 'n' Dale's John Sikura moved his breeding farm to Kentucky and the mare went too. Dearly Loved raced as a 2, 3, 4 and 5 year old.
Her most memorable race was the G1 Alabama Stakes Race where she was beaten by a nose by Open Mind who was the Eclipse Award Champion Two Year Old Filly (1988), Three Year Old Filly (1989) and the Filly Triple Crown winner in that same year. Dearly Loved was second by a nose in an amazing race!
Dearly Loved has been in Ireland where she had two foals by Sadler's Wells. She has been bred to Seattle Slew, Pleasant Colony, Deputy Minister, A.P. Indy, Mt. Livermore and more. Dearly Loved's 1998 foal by Deputy Minister sold for $500,000.00 at Keenland. In her prime, Dearly Loved herself sold for $650,000.00 USD.
Dearly Loved has travelled the world and ended up back on the original farm she was born on. At a thoroughbred sale she was bought by the brother-in-law of Hill 'n' Dale's owner in a moment of sentiment. Dearly Loved was the first horse he saw race when he first met his wife almost twenty years ago! He was moved by his memory and purchased the mare. Immediatly upon learning of his purchase I called him, and he agreed to sell her.
I truly feel humbled to add this great, old soul to Ashlara Farm's breeding programme.
